Summers in Toronto are precious. After thawing out from our annual deep freeze we love to get outdoors. If it's March 3 and the mercury shows 13° we head out in our shorts and tees—restaurants and cafes dust off their patio chairs and we join the annual migration back out into the fresh air. One of the great joys of spring is getting back out doors to enjoy our yards, and, of course, a family barbecue.
With a little planning you can make your barbecuing experience even more enjoyable. Don't design your deck and back garden and then plop the barbecue in the best place it seems to fit. Consider planning your barbecue space right into your overall backyard design from the get-go. It will look better, be more accessible and convenient and make your barbecueing experience even more enjoyable.
But, this doesn't mean it has to be built-in, although that is often a great option. In this award winning landscaping design and installation project we created a space for our client's existing barbecue on the deck close to the house for convenience to inside yet off to the side to assure easy traffic flow into the yard and patio. It's relatively protected from the wind and is abutted by a counter space which is ideal for placing your food both before and after cooking—and of course, for your bottle of wine or pint of fine ale. ..
